a town of France, in the department of Gard, 15 miles S.W. of Nimes, on a hill near the left bank of the Vidourle. It was formerly fortified; and was a place of some importance in the civil wars of the sixteenth century, being frequently held by the Protestants. The walls are all destroyed; but the castle still remains. Woollen cloth, leather, brandy, &c., are manufactured; and there is some trade in wine and wool. Pop. 3697.
