a market-town of England, in the county and 31 miles east of Lincoln. It consists of four streets, diverging from a central market-place, in which stands an octagonal cross. The principal buildings are a court-house, raised on pillars, and the old parish church, which contains many interesting monuments. There are also places of worship for Independents and Methodists, a grammar-school, two national schools, and various charitable institutions. Pop. 1461.
