or Stanislau, a town of the Austrian Empire, in Galicia, capital of a circle, on the Bistritza, 71 miles S.S.E. of Lemberg. It is strongly fortified, and contains a castle, now used as a military hospital, three handsome churches, a gymnasium, normal seminary, and other schools. Here also is a column, erected in 1838 in honour of the late Emperor Francis. Stanislawow is the seat of public offices and courts of law; it is generally well built, and has an active trade in the produce of the surrounding country. Pop. (1851) 10,864.
