or ZENTA, a town of Hungary, in the county of Zombor, on the right bank of the Theiss, 10 miles S. of Kis-Kamsa, and 42 E.N.E. of Zombor. It contains two churches; has an important fishery in the river; and an extensive trade in cattle. Szenta is historically memorable for a victory gained over the Turks here by Prince Eugene, September 11, 1696, the anniversary of which is still celebrated here. Pop. 14,985.
