or TARKO, a town of Asiatic Russia, Transcaucasia, in the province of Daghestan, on the west coast of the Caspian, 70 miles N.W. of Derbend. It stands amidst immense masses of rocks on one of which is a fort commanding the town. Silkworms are reared in large numbers in the vicinity, and a considerable trade is carried on. The harbour is good. Pop. 10,000.
