a market-town of Ireland, in the county and 28 miles N.E. of Tipperary, and 9 miles N. of Thurles. It stands near the right bank of the Suir; and is a modern town, in general neat, clean, and well built. The parish church is a handsome building, with a tower and spire; and there are also places of worship for Methodists and Roman Catholics; a court-house, jail, barracks, hospital, dispensary, school, news-room, and ball-room. Several weekly markets and annual fairs are held here. Pop. 4375.
