(anc. Interamna Praetutiana), a town of Naples, capital of the province of Abruzzo Ultra L, 27 miles N.E. of Aquila. The walls, which at one time enclosed the town, have now entirely disappeared. Some of the streets are broad, and lined with handsome houses; but the greater part of the town consists of narrow dirty streets and ruinous houses. The cathedral is a modernised Gothic building; and there are here also several convents, a royal college, diocesan seminary, several hospitals, public offices, and courts of law. Hats, watches, and cream of tartar are made here; and some trade is carried on in corn, wine, and oil. Numerous remains of temples, baths, aqueducts, &c., indicate the site of the ancient city. Pop. 10,000.
