a town of the Austrian empire, Moravia, on the right bank of the Olsa, 63 miles E.N.E. of Olmütz. It is walled, and entered by three gates; but outside there are as many suburbs. The chief buildings are several fine churches, two ducal castles, an hospital, and a gymnasium, with a library and museum. Woollen cloth, linen, leather, fire-arms, and liqueurs, are made here; and there is some trade in these articles, as well as in wool, wine, honey, &c. Pop. 6400.
