a town of Belgium, in the province of W. Flanders, 14 miles S.S.E. of Bruges. It has a town-hall with a Gothic spire, a college, school of design, and other schools, several benevolent institutions, and manufactures of woollen and linen cloth, gloves, hats, leather, starch, beer, tobacco, &c. A considerable trade is carried on in corn and linen. Thielt was formerly a very flourishing town, but was almost entirely burned in 1838, and it has never wholly recovered from that calamity.
