a town of Savoy, capital of the province of Chablais, 20 miles N.E. of Geneva, on the south shore of the lake. It is an ancient town, irregularly built, with a handsome town-hall, several churches, a court of law, potteries, and some trade in corn, wine, and timber. Pop. 4428.
