or TIRINGTON, a village of England, in Staffordshire, 8 miles W.N.W. of Birmingham. It stands in the middle of a rich mining district, and has rapidly sprung up within a few years, owing to the many coal-pits and iron-mines in the neighbourhood. There are here, besides a parish and a district church, places of worship for Methodists, Independents, and Baptists; as well as several schools. The people are chiefly employed in the mines, iron-forges, mills, and factories for soap, red-lead, and machinery. Pop. (of the parish) 24,872.
