Il, or Vasto d'Ammone, a town of Naples, in the province of Abruzzo Citra, on the Adriatic, 31 miles S.E. of Chieti. It is walled and pretty well built, having regular streets, and a large square with a fine fountain. There are here two churches, numerous convents, hospitals, alms-houses, and manufactories of silk, woollen cloth, and earthenware. Many of the inhabitants are employed in fishing. Pop. 9000.
