WENDOVER

a market-town of England, in the county, and 23 miles S.E. by S. of Buckingham, at the foot of the Chiltern Hills. It is ill built; and has a parish church, Independent and Baptist chapels, National, British, and infant schools. Lace making was once the principal employment of the inhabitants; but it has declined considerably. There are ropeworks, flour-mills, and malt-houses in the town. Wendover was, till 1831, a parliamentary borough, and had the honour of being represented by Hampden and Burke. Pop. of the parish (1851) 1937.
