ST, a town of France, capital of an arrondissement of the same name, in the department of Haute Vienne, on the left bank of the Loue, 27 miles S. of Limoges. It is an ill built place, but has a curious old Gothic collegiate church, four other parish churches, a college, hospital, and court of law. Here are ironworks and manufactures of porcelain, leather, woollen and linen cloth. Some trade is carried on in porcelain-clay, cattle, hides, and hemp. Pop. (1856) 7682.
