or Tsarskoe-selo, i.e., Emperor's Village, a town of Russia, government of St Petersburg, and 16 miles S. of that city, with which it is connected by railway. It is chiefly noted for a summer residence of the emperor, a magnificent building, richly fitted up, and surrounded by a beautiful park. The church of St Sophia here is a miniature copy of the mosque of St Sophia at Constantinople. There are also a college, military school, and some manufactures of linen, carpets, &c. Pop. (1856) 10,833.
