Start with Balmer (entry 2): tag the last two positions, their places and years. The other entries are for further practice. Choose an entry from the Colonial Office List Record of Services. Pick a tag, then click or tap the first word and then the last word of a span. Tag every position, place, year, honour, the education and birth fields, and how the career ended. Then press Compare to see what the pipeline extracted for the same entry. Nothing leaves your browser.
Phone: tap a tag, tap the first word (it gets a dashed outline), then tap the last word. Keyboard: Tab to a word, Enter to start a span, Enter on the last word to finish it.

Questions to settle
Did you count a clause with no place as inheriting the previous place? The pipeline's rule says yes, and marks it place_inherited.
Did you split "col. sec. and min. of com. and lab." into two positions, or keep it as one? The rule says explode compound clauses into separate events.
Is a month ("Mar., 1919") part of the year, or dropped? The schema keeps years only.
Is "called to the bar" a career event? Is "defeated by Sir Richard McBride" one? A defeat can be an event, but it is not an office held. The historian decides what event types the schema needs.
If the entry prints no birth year, did you leave birth blank? The pipeline's rule says never infer it, and one of these records broke the rule.
