  "text": "king of the Romans, called Antoninus Augustus,\nPeroz, or Perozes, king of the Persians, (Parthians)\nmade an irruption into the Roman empire; from\nwhence he deduced the name Perozes, which\nsignifies The Conqueror, or The Victor, having\nbefore been denominated Vologesus, according to\nthe Greeks, but by what name he went amongst\nthe Persians I have not yet been able to learn.”\nWhich passage seems not only to point at the defeat of\nLucius Attidius in (8) Syria, but likewise at the terrible\noverthrow given the Romans in Armenia, soon after\nMarcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus ascended the\nimperial throne.\n\nI shall only beg leave at present to add, that the\n(9) Arabic Firûz and the Persic or Armenian Peroz\nagree entirely in signification, (10) if they may not be\nconsidered as absolutely the same word; that a Persian\nking, named Firûz by the Arabs, (11) is called Perozes\n(Περόζης) by Agathias; that (12) Moses Chorenensis\nand one, at least, of the medals here described mu-\ntually strengthen and support each other; and that\nI am, with all possible consideration and esteem,\n\nSIR,\n\nYour most obedient humble Servant,\n\nChrist-Church, Oxon.\nJune 30, 1766.\n\nJohn Swinton.\n\n(8) Jul.
