EUPHRATES, the finest river in Turkey in Asia, has two sources, northward of the city of Erzerum, in 40° N. lat. After passing through Armenia, it divides Syria from Diarbek or Assyria, runs through Eyraca or Chaldea; and uniting with the Tygris, it passes by the city of Bassora, fifty miles below which it falls into the gulf of Persia.
