CEYLON, an island in the Indian ocean, situated between 78^{\circ} and 82^{\circ} E. long. and between 6^{\circ} and 10^{\circ} N. lat. It is about two hundred and fifty miles long, and two hundred broad. The Dutch, who are in possession of all the sea-coast, monopolize all the cinnamon produced in the island, the king being obliged to keep in the centre of the island, in his capital of Candy.
