YORK, the capital city of Yorkshire, situated on the river Ouse, 180 miles north of London: W. long. , N. lat. . It is a large city, and has some good buildings in it, particularly the cathedral, which is a Gothic pile, equal to any thing of the kind in England. It is the see of an archbishop, and sends two members to parliament.
