CAMBAIA, or CAMPAY, a town of Asia, in India, and in the peninsula on this side the Ganges; capital of a province of the same name; but more commonly called Gazarat. It is seated at the bottom of a gulph of the same name, on a small river; is a large place with high walls, and has a pretty good trade. The product and manufactures are inferior to few towns in India: for it abounds in corn, cattle, and silk; and corneian and agate stones are found in its rivers. The inhabitants are noted for embroidery; and some of their quilts have been valued at 40 l. It is subject to the Great Mogul. E. Long. 72. 15. N. Lat. 22. 30.
