PATNA, a town of Asia, in the dominions of the Great Mogul, and capital of a territory of the same name, to the north of the kingdom of Bengal, where the English have factories for saltpetre, borax, and raw silk. It also produces large quantities of opium. The town is large, but the houses are built at a distance from each other. It is seated in a fertile pleasant country, 400 miles east of Agra. E.
