PHILADELPHIA, an ancient town of Turkey in Asia, in Natolia; seated at the foot of mount Tmolus, from whence there is a fine view over an extensive plain. The Greeks retain its ancient name, but by the Turks it is called Allabijur. It contains 7 or 8000 inhabitants; of whom 2000 are Christians, who have four churches, over which presides an archbishop.
