Spring-WATER is commonly impregnated with a small portion of imperfect neutral salt, extracted from the different strata through which it percolates. Some contain a vast quantity of stony matter, which they deposit as they run along, and thus form masses of stone; sometimes incrusting various animal and vegetable matters, which they are therefore said to petrify. Spring-water is much used for domestic purposes, and on account of its coolness is an agreeable drink; but on account of its being generally somewhat hard, is inferior to that which has run for a considerable way in a channel.
