ARTABAZUS, the son of Pharnabazus, commanded the Parthians and Chorasians in the famous expedition of Xerxes. After the battle of Salamis, he escorted the king his master to the Hellepont with 60,000 chosen men; and after the battle of Plataea, in which Mardonius engaged contrary to his advice, he made a noble retreat, and returned to Asia with 40,000 men under his command.
