BARRAUX, a fortress of Dauphiny belonging to
France. It stands in the valley of Gresivaudan, and
was built by a Duke of Savoy in 1597. The French
took it in 1598, and have kept it ever since. It is
situated on the river Isère, in E. Long. 4. 35. N. Lat.
