CAMPEN, a strong town of Overijssel in the Uni-
ted Provinces. It hath a citadel and a harbour; but
the latter is almost choked up with sand. It was tak-
en by the Dutch in 1578, and by the French in
1672: but they abandoned it the following year. It
is seated near the mouth of the river Yssel and Zuyder
