MARACAYBO, a town of South America, capital of a province, and seated near a lake of the same name. It carries on a great trade in skins and chocolate, and they have likewise very fine tobacco. The population is estimated at 8400. It was taken by the French bucaniers in 1666 and 1678. W. Long. 70. 56. N. Lat. 10. 10.
