AMBERG, a bailiwick in the circle of Rogen, in the kingdom of Bavaria. It is 288 square miles, or 184,320 acres. It is a woody and hilly district, but intermixed with a few strips of good soil which yields rye, flax, and hemp. There are a few iron mines, and several forges. It contains two cities, 20 towns, 240 villages, and 18,800 inhabitants.
