AMBERG, a city, the capital of the bailiwick of the same name. It stands on the river Vils, surrounded by double walls; and has 712 houses, and 6475 inhabitants. There are a lyceum and some other institutions for education, and a public library. There are some manufactures of china, playing-cards, leather, and some iron; also a royal manufactory for arms.
