BHATGAN, or BHATGONG, a town of Northern Hindostan, in the valley of Nepal, and a celebrated place of Hindoo superstition. It is the favourite residence of the Brahmins of Nepal, and contains many more families of that order than either Catmandoo or Patu. It contains 12,000 houses, and its palace and the buildings in general are of a more striking appearance than those in the other Nepalese towns, owing chiefly to the excellent quality of the bricks. The town is said to contain many valuable Sanscrit libraries. Long. 85. 45. E. Lat. 27. 32. N.
