GEORGETOWN, a post-town, port of entry, and capital of Georgetown district, in South Carolina. It is situated on the west side of Winyaw Bay, about sixty miles north-north-east of Charleston. It enjoys some trade, and possesses the usual public buildings, together with a population of about 2000.
