BRAGANCA, a town of Portugal, province of Tras-os-Montes, on the Ferrenza, 26 miles N.W. of Miranda. It is partially fortified, is the seat of a bishopric, and has a citadel, a college, and some manufactures of silk and velvet. Pop. 5000. The reigning houses of Portugal and Brazil are descendants of the old Dukes of Bragança.
