SCHWEINFURT (anc. Trajectus Suorum), a town of Bavaria, in the circle of Lower Franconia, on the right bank of the Main, 22 miles N.N.E. of Würzburg. It is an ancient place, still encircled by the old wall and ditch, and entered by two of the old gates. There are here a handsome town-hall, several churches, a gymnasium founded by Gustavus Adolphus, several other schools, and various benevolent institutions. The town has manufactures of woollen and linen goods, hosiery, leather, hardware, tobacco, brandy, &c. Pop. 7800.
