(anc. geog.), a town in the tribe of Ephraim, and a name given Bethel by Hosea, after the establishment of the idolatry of Jeroboam there; meaning it to have become the house of iniquity, from being the house of God; but Bethaven was a distinct town (Joshua vii. 2.) to the south-east of Bethel.
