(Lewis Francis, duke of), a peer and marshal of France, was born in 1644. He distinguished himself by his valour and conduct in several sieges and battles, and had the command of the right wing when the French were defeated at the bloody battle of Malplaquet. He died at Fontainebleau in 1711.—Marshal Bouflers, his son, died at Genoa, after having delivered that republic.
