The calyx is quinquepartite; the corolla campanulated, quinquefied, with acute segments; the capsule bivalved, bilocular, and polypernous. There is but one species, the biflora, which is a native of the warm parts of America. Being a troublesome weed, and without beauty, it is never cultivated, except in botanic gardens for the sake of variety.
