HERRERA TORDESILLAS (Anthony), a Spanish historian, was secretary to Vespasian Gonzaga vice-roy of Naples, and afterwards historiographer of the Indies, under king Philip II., who allowed him a considerable pension. He wrote a general history of the Indies, in Spanish, from 1492 to 1554; and of the world (not so much esteemed), from 1554 to 1598. He died in 1625, aged about 66.
