in Ancient Geography, a town of the Trinobantes, a little above Camelodunum. Now Colchester in Essex, according to Camden, who supposes it to take its name from the river Colne, and not that it was a colony; though others think Antonine's distance agrees with Sudbury.
COLONIA Equitrix, an ancient and noble colony on the Lacus Lemanus. It appears to be the work of Julius Caesar, who settled there Equites Limatenei; and to this Lucan is thought to refer. By the itinerary it is supposed to have stood between Laufenne and Geneva, 12 miles from the last place by Peutinger's map, which directs to Nyon, placed in Cavo Lemanio, according to Lucan's expression, that is, a bay or cove of the lake. Its ancient name was Noviodunum, (Notitia Galliae): hence its modern name.
