Adrian, an eminent engraver who flourished about 1550, was born at Antwerp. After having learned in his own country the first principles of engraving, he went to Italy, where he resided some time to perfect himself in drawing. He wrought entirely with the graver, in a firm neat style, but rather stiff and dry. The vast number of plates executed by his hand sufficiently evince the facility with which he engraved; and though exceedingly neat, yet they are seldom highly finished.
