one of the circles into which the Turkish island of Candia is divided. It is a fruitful district in the north-east part of the island, and yields a surplus of corn, oil, and fruits. The chief place of the same name, situated on the Bay of Spinalonga, where there is a good anchorage. It is the see of a bishop, and contains 1500 inhabitants. Long. 25. 5. E. Lat. 35. 15. N.
