Robert, the inventor of the modern panorama, and a painter by profession, was born at Kells, in Ireland, in 1740. The first picture of this kind was a view of Edinburgh, which was first exhibited by Mr Barker in that city in 1788. Barker died at London in 1806, having realized a considerable fortune by his invention.
