Giovanni Battista, an eminent historical painter, born in Piedmont in 1634. He studied at Rome under Pietro del Po; and some authors affirm that he was afterwards a disciple of Lanfranc. He was a good designer; and in acknowledgment of his merit, the honour of knighthood was conferred upon him. He died in 1688.
