PIERRE, a learned Jesuit, born at Rouen in 1668, was early distinguished by his talents for the belles-lettres. He was a man of estimable character, and beloved for his integrity and goodness of heart. He wrote many works; but his fame rests at present on his *Théâtre des Grecs*, which is a prose translation of the Greek dramatists, with an analysis of their merits, and dissertations on the Greek stage. He died at Paris in 1742.
