island in the Adriatic Sea, belonging to the province of Spalatro, in the Austrian kingdom of Dalmatia. It is situated on the coast, opposite to Trau, with which it is connected by a bridge; is rich in wine, oil, and fruit; and contains about 4000 inhabitants. There is in it a remarkable well of asphaltum.
