an island and fort of Scinde in the Indus, between the towns of Rorce on the eastern, and Sukkur on the western bank. The island is a rock of limestone of an oval shape, 800 yards long, 300 wide, 1875 in circuit, and about 25 feet high. It is almost entirely covered by the fortress, the walls of which are double, and from 30 to 35 feet high. In the beginning of 1829 the British army crossed here on a bridge of boats. Lat. 27. 41. N.
