a market-town of Ireland, county Roscommon, 17 miles W.N.W. from Roscommon. It is pleasantly situated on the river Suck, which is here crossed by two bridges. The town consists principally of one long, wide, and tolerably well-built street; and has a church, workhouse, bridewell, dispensary, and distillery. In the immediate vicinity is the extensive demesne of Castlereagh, the seat of Lord Mountsanford. Pop. in 1851 (including 1392 in workhouse), 2613.
