a small town of Ireland, county of Kerry, 11 miles E.S.E. of Tralee. Its principal edifices are the parish church, Roman Catholic chapel, session-house, and prison. The castle, from which the place derives its name, was erected by Geoffrey de Mariscus, lord-justice of Ireland, in 1226, and was frequently the subject of violent contention. Pop.
