a fortified town of Sweden, capital of the province of the same name, on the Helge river, where it forms a small lake, about 8 miles from its mouth in the Baltic. The town, though regularly built, consists principally of wooden structures. Chief manufactures, linen and woollen goods and gloves. Pop. 4500. At the mouth of the river is Åhus, the port of Christianstad, by means of which it carries on some trade in pitch, tar, alum, potash, and timber.
