a town of France, department of Mayenne, on the left bank of the Oudon, 12 miles W. by N. of Chateau-Gonthier. It has a fine castle, and some trade in grain, cattle, flax, and thread. Pop. 3000. Volney the traveller, and author of Ruins of Empires, was born here in 1755.
